Bayern Munich is not relenting in their pursuit of Harry Kane from Tottenham, as reported by Sky in Germany. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a board member at Bayern, is leading the charge to secure the 29-year-old striker, who has entered the final year of his contract with Spurs. The German champions are attempting to gauge Tottenham’s willingness to sell Kane this summer and are determined to submit another offer.
Tottenham, on the other hand, is adamant that Kane is not for sale, and any bids for the England captain would not be welcomed by the club.
Despite reports in Europe suggesting that an initial bid had been made, Tottenham claims they have not received any offers for Kane. According to Sky in Germany, Bayern believes that Kane has a preference for joining them over other clubs if he is granted permission to leave this summer.
Bayern’s interest lies in signing Kane on a free transfer when his contract with Spurs expires in 2024. In February, Kane surpassed Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing record of 266 goals for Spurs, dating back to 1970, becoming Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer. His next milestone is Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals in the Premier League.
Despite Tottenham’s eighth-place finish and the managerial changes throughout the season, Kane had an exceptional individual campaign, scoring 30 goals. He now finds himself just 48 goals away from surpassing Shearer’s record.
Andy Brassell, a European football expert, provided insight into Bayern’s renewed interest in Kane on The Transfer Show: “Something has really changed between Bayern Munich and Harry Kane. What’s changed is that he’s expressed an openness to the move.
“This isn’t a new interest; Bayern has been interested for a long time, but this is the first time they have received some encouragement in return. Combined with the fact that Kane has only one year left on his contract, it puts Spurs in a predicament.
“To convince Kane to sign a new contract, Spurs will have to do something extraordinary to demonstrate consistent Champions League qualification. Given Kane’s age, his next contract will be his last big one during his prime. It’s not about the money; it’s about leaving a legacy.
“The opportunity to consistently compete in the Champions League is what has caught Kane’s attention with Bayern’s interest, I believe.”
