Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez, has dismissed any speculations about Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti leaving the club after winning the Copa del Rey title against Osasuna over the weekend. With this win, Real Madrid secured their 20th Copa del Rey title and the first since 2014.
Ancelotti has been under pressure this season due to Real Madrid’s lackluster performance in La Liga, which has seen them fall behind rivals Barcelona, but Perez backed the Italian coach to remain at the Bernabeu after the recent cup victory and the upcoming Champions League semifinal clash against Manchester City next week.
“I don’t even want to hear about this subject anymore,” Perez stated. “He has a contract with us, and we are happy.”
Ancelotti’s contract with Real Madrid will last until the end of next season, and he has expressed his desire to remain with the club for as long as they want to keep him.
Perez, who hired Ancelotti to replace Zinedine Zidane in 2021, previously received criticism for his decision to hire Ancelotti when he was coming off stints with Napoli and Everton. However, the doubts were quickly dispelled with Ancelotti leading the club to win significant trophies in the Copa, Champions League, Spanish league, Club World Cup, Spanish Super Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. Ancelotti is the first coach to help Madrid win all possible significant trophies in a two-season span.
Ancelotti won the Copa, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup in his first stint with Real Madrid from 2013-2015. He currently has ten trophies with the club, trailing behind Zidane, who won eleven, and Miguel Munoz, who coached in the 1960s and ’70s and won 14.
Ancelotti has a chance to draw level with Zidane if he helps Real Madrid win a second consecutive Champions League title later this season. However, winning the Spanish league for the second year in a row is almost impossible as Madrid trails leader Barcelona by 14 points with five matches remaining.
The Copa del Rey title was Perez’s 32nd trophy with Real Madrid, which equals the record of former president Santiago Bernabeu.
