Reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have expressed tentative interest in Roma boss, Jose Mourinho, to become their next manager. The club is currently assessing its options as the contract of their current head coach, Christophe Galtier, expires in 2024.
The future of Mourinho as Roma boss remains uncertain, which may prompt the Portuguese to consider a change of club. The 60-year-old enjoys a great relationship with PSG’s sporting director, Luis Campos, after the pair previously worked together at Real Madrid.
Mourinho, whose contract with Roma expires at the end of next season, led the Italian side to their first European trophy since 1961 with a victory in last season’s Europa Conference League. He is now eyeing back-to-back European successes with Roma, who are set to play against Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals of the Europa League, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Italy on Thursday.
Although Roma is currently sitting at seventh place in the domestic league, five points outside the Champions League places with four games remaining, Mourinho’s record speaks for itself. He has previously managed in countries such as England, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, with successful stints at clubs such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan.
PSG is expected to undergo significant changes this summer, with Lionel Messi’s departure from the club being highly likely, and Neymar’s future remaining uncertain as the team continues to search for their first Champions League title. PSG had a disappointing season after being knocked out of both the Champions League and the French Cup at the last-16 stage. However, they are still six points clear at the top of Ligue 1, with four games remaining.
Mourinho’s potential move to PSG would see him take charge of his tenth different club, and it would mark his first managerial stint in France. Only time will tell if PSG’s tentative interest in the Portuguese manager will materialize into an offer.
