In a bold move, Al Hilal has submitted a staggering offer of €140m (£120.3m) to Napoli in pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, accompanied by an alluring wage package of around £1m per week. Al Hilal’s financial prowess has been on full display this summer, with their astonishing €300m (£259m) bid for Paris St-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe being accepted, despite the player declining to engage in discussions. They also attempted to secure the services of Lionel Messi before he eventually joined Inter Miami.
Napoli, however, appears adamant about retaining Osimhen, who finished as the top scorer in Serie A last season, playing a pivotal role in the team’s league title victory. The Italian club is likely to demand more than €150m (£128.8m) if they are even to consider parting ways with the 24-year-old sensation.
Earlier this summer, Manchester United expressed interest in Osimhen, but discussions regarding a contract extension with Napoli hit a roadblock. A recent meeting between Napoli and Osimhen’s agent failed to yield a resolution, as the player’s current contract is set to run until the summer of 2025.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had previously mentioned the possibility of a two-year extension for Osimhen but asserted the club’s willingness to entertain an irresistible offer.
Al Hilal’s aggressive approach in the transfer market is undeniable, having already secured notable signings such as Ruben Neves from Wolves, Kalidou Koulibaly from Chelsea, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio during this summer window. Their ambition to strengthen the squad appears unwavering, and it remains to be seen whether Napoli will be swayed by their monumental offer for Osimhen.
